Week 1 of the CrossFit Open is in the books, and if you were at Saturday Morning Throwdown, you know just how electric the atmosphere was. The gym was buzzing with energy—coaches strategizing, teams rallying together, and athletes pushing through the kind of workouts that remind you why the Open is so special.
For those who were there, you felt it: the mix of nerves before the clock started, the adrenaline kicking in midway through, and that final, exhausted-but-proud feeling when time was called. It was the best kind of challenge—one that brought out the best in everyone.
What Makes Saturday Morning Throwdowns Special?
Instead of Friday Night Lights, CrossFit Wooster does things a little differently. Saturday mornings, we throw down as a community, turning the Open workouts into an event that’s as much about support as it is about sweat.
Here’s what went down in Week 1—and what you can expect in the weeks ahead.
- Team Spirit Was on Another Level
Our Intramural Open teams came ready to compete! Our teams checked in with each other, asking when others would go so they could cheer each other on. - The Best Kind of Competition
It didn’t matter if you were Rx, scaled, or somewhere in between—everyone brought their A-game. 25.1 had a lot of people redoing it because they said, “I think I have more in the tank and I can push myself to another level.” There’s something about doing an Open workout with a crowd around you that makes you dig deeper than you thought possible. - Judges, Friends, and High-Fives
Each heat had its own energy, with judges keeping reps in check while also being the ultimate hype squad. From counting reps to shouting encouragement, it was clear—no one was in this alone. Except Kim… she did the workout alone and ROCKED IT. - Post-Workout Stories (and Maybe a Few Groans)
After it was all said and done, athletes gathered to swap stories about the toughest part of the workout, how to pace those burpees, and the moments they wanted to quit after 5 minutes but didn’t. This is what the Open is about—real challenges, real effort, and real community.
Looking Ahead to Week 2
If Week 1 was any indication, Week 2 is going to be even bigger. Here’s what you need to know:
- New Workout Drops Thursday – Stay tuned to see what’s coming next.
- Show Up and Give It Your Best – You don’t need to be the strongest or fastest, just willing to try.
- The Community Has Your Back – Whether you’re competing or cheering, your presence matters.
It’s Not Too Late to Join!
Week 1 may be over, but the Open isn’t. Even if you missed the first Throwdown, there’s still time to be part of the next one.
Come for the challenge. Stay for the community. Walk away stronger.
